If you’ve lived more than a few days on the planet Earth, you know that life sometimes offers us experiences that don’t feel the greatest. And because we’re human, it can be challenging to maintain a positive state of mind during those times.

Understand that you are not the only person going through something like this.
It’s easy to isolate yourself in hard times. In fact, social media will have you believing that everyone everywhere is happy, in love, successful, and gliding through life without a care in the world. This causes some people to hide that they’re dealing with anything troubling, for fear of embarrassment. But don’t be fooled by the hype. Every human in this world deals with trying times every now and again. It’s a part of life. It’s one of the ways we learn, get stronger, better.
Know that there is an expiration date on everything. In other words, this too shall pass.
You may be faced with a circumstance that isn’t fun to have to deal with, but there has to come a time that it comes to an end. Do your best in handling things as they come, while looking forward to better times. Visualizing how things will be once “this” is over can put you in a better mood and even help you to get through a little easier.
Talk to yourself.
No, this doesn’t make you crazy. Talking things through helps lots of people. Sometimes, in order to stop a negative thought in its tracks, you can speak out loud. Tell yourself that everything is okay. Say that this is only temporary and that things will work out for the better. Speak what you want to happen as if it is already happening. This actually works. You’d be amazed at how quickly it works sometimes too!
Write it out.
You knew it was coming…One of the best ways to deal with your emotions head-on is to write about them. Get your thoughts and frustrations out of your mind and onto the page. Then, write what you would like to happen instead. It’s healthy to get a little lost in thinking about what could be “in a perfect world”. You should start to feel better, and gain a bit of clarity on what steps you could take next.
Remember that you are in control.
Whether you choose to believe it or not, you create your reality whenever you speak and think certain things. You may not be able to control what happens to and around you, but you can control how you respond, and what happens next. The bible tells us that we have the power of life and death in our tongues (Proverbs 18). If you have the power to choose whether you speak life or death, wouldn’t you rather speak life into yourself and into your situations?
